Title page; v.b.; [i] 2-18, 20-48 pp. Engraved throughout.  The whole disbound, loose pages contained in a contemporary paper and cloth wrapper, ticket affixed to front cover reading "No. 177 Library Book./ Handel's Six Concerto's./ I. Hedgley,/ No. 12., Ebury Street, Pimlico,/ Music Seller, and Tuner,/ by Appointment to/ H.R.M. the Princess Augusta./ Music lent out on hire."  Later ownership signature "B. Gipps" written to upper right corner, armorial bookplate of the musician Ernest Bryan Gipps, brother of the composer Ruth and leader of the Folkestone Municipal Orchestra in the 1930s, affixed to inside cover, occasional notations written throughout in an early hand, heavy toning to outer wrapper else in fine condition.  10 x 12.5 inches (25.4 x 37.8 cm.). "Six English Canzonets with an Accompaniment for the Piano Forte, Composed and most humbly dedicated To the Queen (with Her Majesty's most gracious permission)." London: Printed for the Author, adn Sold by Birchall. [1802]. Upright folio. Title; 2 - 24 pp. Engraved throughout. Signed at the foot of page two by the German musical impresario best remembered for bringing Haydn to London in the 1790s. Title separated at spine, disbound from a larger volume and otherwise in fine condition, with alternate continuous pagination written in an early hand to upper corners and one note alteration, possibly in the hand of the composer.   9.5 x 13.5 inches (24.1 x 34.3 cm.).  Together with an unsigned copy of "A Second Set of Six English Canzonets" by Salomon. London: Printed for the Author, and Sold at Birchall's. Personal check, 8.5 x 3, filled out in another hand and signed by Ives, "Charles E. Ives," payable to New Music Edition for $50, July 1, 1946. Matted and framed with artifacts from Ives's Connecticut home, including two pieces of wood and a portion of hand painted wall paper, together with an original photograph of the home, to an overall size of 11.75 x 10.75. Original broadside from a program at the Theatre Royal, Covent-Garden on Friday, July 9, 1819, including performances of Richard Brinsley Sheridan's School for Scandal and Mozart's masterful comic opera The Marriage of Figaro, presented "with some omissions," also noting that "The Overture and Musick selected chiefly from Mozart's Opera - The new Musick composed, & the whole arranged & adapted to the English Stage by Mr. BISHOP." Autograph Concert Program Signed FIVE times

Handwritten plan for a concert penned by Paganini, signed five times, "Paganini," one page, 7.75 x 6.75, Academie Royale de Musique, Paris letterhead, no date [ca. 1831]. Paganini outlines a plan for a Friday concert, writing four lines in Italian, each finishing with his surname. Among the pieces are the first part of his B Minor Concerto, what is understood to be his Religiosa introduzione al Rondo del Campanello, an sonata played only on his fourth string with variations on a martial tune, and a Larghetto and variations on a theme by Rossini. In part: "1. Prima parte di un Concerto in Si minore composto e eseguito dal Paganini, 2. Introduzione religiosa expressamente composta del Paganini, e Rondo allegretto obbligato ad un Campanella Composta, ed eseguito del Paganini, 3. Sonata di un Canto appassionato, e Variazioni Sopra un tema marziale Composta, ed eseguito sulla sola 4ta corda dal Paganini, 4. Bold signature from the violin virtuoso, clipped from the close of a letter.  Creases, else fine.  5 x 2.25 inches (12.7 x 6.2 cm.). Together with a later sepia portrait gravure, 7 x 9.5 inches. 

79. [Composers] Paganini, Nicolò. (1782–1840).
1828 Vienna Concert Broadside from his first International Tour

Very rare concert broadside from the legendary violinist's first international tour, advertising a June 6, 1828 performance in Vienna at "the Hoftheater next to the Kärntinerthore [sic]."  The "Kammer-Virtuoso" was to perform several of his own pieces including the Violin Concerto No. 2 in B minor and two compositions based on works by Rossini, the first a sonata with variations on the Preghiera from Mosè, and the second the debut performance of a Larghetto and Variations of a Cavatine (possibly Paganini’s Introduction and Variations on the Cavatina ‘Di tanti palpiti’ from Rossini’s opera ‘Tancredi’).  Program punctuated by movements from "Mozart's Symphony in C major" and two arias sung by Antonia Bianchi -  a "Cavatine" from Pacini's La sposa fedele and an unidentified scene and aria with variations. On laid paper with watermark "A B" and measuring 7.75 x 13.25 inches (19.5 x 33.7 centimeters).  In fine condition, with small losses along the upper blank edge, unobtrusive nicks and small stains to edges. We have located no other examples of broadsides from the great virtuoso's Viennese concerts having ever appeared at auction or recorded in Worldcat.   Read More...

The Doors sign off on 'The End' for the Apocalypse Now soundtrack - SIGNED CONTRACTS

Two agreements between members of The Doors associated with the creation of the Apocalypse Now soundtrack album: the first is signed by John Densmore and Robby Krieger, two pages, 8.5 x 11, July 2, 1979, in part: "Reference is made to that certain agreement between you, Elektra/Asylum Records and the undersigned dated as of 0 January 1978 with regard to use of certain masters in the motion picture 'Apocalypse Now' an the soundtrack album thereof…You agree that the Album shall be a double disc Album and shall contain two (2) 'cuts' (as that term is understood in the record industry) of 'The End'"; the second is signed by Ray Manzarek, two pages, 8.5 x 11, March 11, 1980, and modifies the soundtrack to "a single disc Album" with "one (1) 'cut'…of the Composition."
