Born at Bonngasse 515, by coincidence the same birth home as Beethoven, Salomon would go on to have a successful and varied career as a violinist, concertmaster, composer, and impresario. He brought Haydn to London in 1791–92 and 1794–95, trips during which Haydn wrote symphonies no. 93–104.  Salomon often led the debut performances of these compositions, and though more widely known as the London Symphonies, they are also known as the Salomon Symphonies.  Signs of their friendship and mutual esteem are present in the scores, as evidenced by the phrase marked Salomon solo ma piano in the trio of the 97th.  Haydn composed the solo violin part in his Sinfonia Concertante in B-flat major with Salomon in mind. (18832)
