Striking halftone Maurice of Chicago photograph of the American jazz trumpet player, instrument to his lips and shadow looming large behind him, with "Roy Elridge and his Martin Trumpet" written in negative and caption "Roy Elridge - 'Hottest of the Hot' - and a great Martin Booster!" printed to lower margin.  Three small pinholes to upper margin, light wear and toning to edge, else fine.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.).

The Martin Band Instrument Company produced in band instruments, including trumpets, cornets, fluegelhorns, trombones, and saxophones from its founding in 1908 through 1970.  The brand was acquired by the Leblanc Corporation in 1971 and discontinued in 2007.

Elridge, nicknamed "Little Jazz," was most prominent during the swing era, his virtuosic solos and prominent use of tritone substitutions proving a major influence on future generations of jazz musicians such as Dizzie Gillespie. (18960)
