Satie, Erik. (1866-1925)

"Le Chapelier" from Trois Melodies.

Paris: Rouart, Lerolle, & Co.. 1917. Upright folio, 3 pp.  Ownership stamp for "M. Th. Ducuing" to cover.  Two diagonal creases to lower left quartile of cover, a few stains to front cover, small horizontal tear to right edge, edge wear throughout, else fine.  10.5 x 13.5 inches (26.7 x 34.3 cm.).

Published in 1916, Trois Mélodies is one of Satie's rare excursions in French art song.  Consisting of three short songs, the entire cycle lasts under 4 minutes in performance.  The composer's first English-language biographer, Rollo H. Myers, thought this work contained "the essence of Satie the ironist, the wit, and the skillful parodist."
