Group of Autograph Envelopes

Three original envelopes addressed in the important composer's hand to Italian composer Adriano Lualdi, ca. 1934–1936. Lualdi served as an Italian representative to the Permanent Council for International Cooperation between Composers, of which Strauss was the chair. Fine. 4.75 x 3.75 inches to 6.5 x 4.5 inches.

Lualdi organized the “900 musicale italiano” in 1927 in Milan, dedicated to music of the 20th century in Italy, as well as the first International Festival of Music in Venice in 1930, an adjunct of the Venice Biennale. In 1929 he was elected to the Italian parliament. He then directed the Naples conservatory for eight years and, later, the Cherubini conservatory in Florence. He was a continued and avid supporter of Benito Mussolini and Italian fascism. (17244)
