Original concert program from the great composer's appearance conducting the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome on May 1, 1910. Original jumbo cabinet photograph of a portrait of the great composer and conductor in silhouette vignettes by Otto Böhler. Eighteen small vignettes tightly arranged over the sheet depict Mahler conducting at the Vienna Court Opera, capturing his very animated style of conducting and his distinctive curly hair and reflective eyeglasses. Photographic reproduction as part of a series of "Dr. Otto Böhler's Schattenbilder" by R. Lechner of Vienna, and on the photographer's card. "Improvisation Op. 51" - Autograph Manuscript Quotation

AMQS by the American composer and pianist, son of the important hymn composer Lowell Mason. Two measures of music written in the composer's impeccable hand, signed and dated New York, April 24 1900. The quotation has been made on a leaf from a diary dated January 24 (Mason's birthday) and printed with Mason's name and a quotation from Milton. The leaf is unfortunately torn in two, with some losses to the music; there are chips and tears around the edges; otherwise the signature itself is in good condition. 11 x 16 cm.

Original 1887 Concert Program in Memory of Mendelssohn

Original program from a concert given by the Stern'scher Gesangverein of Berlin in memory of Felix Mendelssohn, on November 4, 1887, the fortieth anniversary of the composer's death. The orchestra was the Philharmonische Kapelle, conducted in the Mendelssohn Psalm 42 and Mozart Requiem by E. Dudorff. 6 pp. 13.5 x 20.5 cm. Two hole-punches along the left edge, else fine.

Original 1936 snapshot of the prolific French composer and the great conductor together in Les Baux-de-Provence. The two were acquainted for many years, with Milhaud a frequent guest conductor at the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra during Monteux's tenure there; Milhaud also composed a special piece for Monteux's eightieth birthday in 1955! The two are seen relaxing in deck chairs outside; on the verso, an unidentified hand dates the picture to August 1936. A slightly blurred image but otherwise in fine condition. 2.25 x 3.5 inches (5.8 x 8.7 cm). From the estate of Monteux's daughter, Nancie Monteux Barendse.

AMQS from the German-Jewish composer, pianist, and teacher known for his great output of piano works.  Moszkowski has penned two measures of a theme in E minor on a postcard showing the Rio Paraná, Argentina. Dated Gérardmer (Lorraine, France), August 15, 1905. On the verso, the postcard is addressed to the Argentinian collector Ramona Imaz Otaño, with the original French stamp and postmark. Collection of 'Traditional Zuni' Songs

Newton Center, MA: Wa-Wan Press. 1904-1909. First Edition. An interesting collection of sheet music for 8 pieces of Troyer's 'traditional Zuni' music. The seven songs and one instrumental piece are inspired by the traditional music of the Zuni people, one of the Pueblo peoples, whose tribal lands are on the Zuni river in western New Mexico. The songs, with texts in English, are accompanied by explanatory texts about the traditions of the Zunis. Present are: Zunian Lullaby (cop. 1904, two copies); Zuni Lover's Wooing (cop. 1904); The Sunrise Call (cop. 1904); The Coming of Montezuma (cop. 1904, two copies); The Festive Sun-Dance (cop. 1904); Ghost Dance of the Zunis (for piano, violin, and gong ad lib, cop. 1904); Indian Fire Song (cop. 1907); and Hymn to the Sun (cop. 1909). Some light toning, but overall in fine condition, with the exception of Ghost Dance of the Zunis (spine split, with some small tears). 10.5 x 14 inches (26.8 x 35.3 cm). "Koncert for Klarinet og Orkester" - Two Autograph Manuscripts

Two autograph musical manuscripts of the important Danish composer's Clarinet Concerto op. 57, one solo clarinet part signed by the composer and accomplished in his own hand, and one piano reduction in the hand of his son-in-law and colleague, Hungarian violinist Emil Telmányi, with autograph notes and corrections from Nielsen. The latter is dated at the foot: Fuglsang, August 19, 1928, only four days after Nielsen's completion of the concerto, and is therefore one of the earliest manuscripts of the piece, alongside the original score in the collections of Copenhagen's Kongelige Bibliotek. First edition scores to four piano works by the German composer and writer on music Walter Niemann, three of which are inscribed by the composer to the German-Dutch pianist and composer Julius Röntgen, with one further score inscribed to a female recipient in another hand. The scores are as follows: 24 Präludien für Klavier, op. 55 (Leipzig: C. F. Kahnt, 1918. [PN] 7974), inscribed on the cover (translated from the German): "To Professor Julius Röntgen in heartfelt respect and thanks for the kind introduction to your Academy. Leipzig, May 1919." 23 pp. Toning and pencil markings likely in Röntgen's hand, overall in fine condition; Impressionen. Sechs Stücke für Klavier zu 2 Händen, op. 112 (Leipzig: C. F. Peters, 1927. [PN] 10573), inscribed on the title page (translated from the German): "To Professor Julius Röntgen in admiring devotion and thanks from the composer. Leipzig, S[aturday] 7 Jan. 1928." 40 pp. With Röntgen's ownership signature on the cover and performance markings in pencil throughout, overall fine; Variationen über eine alt-holländische Sarabande, op. 118 no. 2 (Leipzig: C. Typed letter signed from the important Russian composer to progressive journalist Pierre Paraf, thanking him for sending Prokofiev "Danseur rouge," a work by Paul Knudsen. Dated Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, August 1, 1927. Translated from the French, in part: "Please excuse me for not yet having thanked you for sending "Danseur rouge" by Mr. Knudsen. I have been extremely busy in the past months and it was only in the course of the last week that I was able to read the "Danseur rouge," which seemed to me a work of great talent. I read it with great pleasure, notwithstanding the mistakes in the translation. Yet, I do not think that I will write music for this little book, for at the moment my thoughts are with other plans, but I am interested in Paul Knudsen's work and I would be pleased to read his other plays [...] Serge Prokofieff." 1 p. The musical quotation in Rimsky-Korsakov's hand is clipped and mounted below a pen drawing of the composer by A. Haferland. Set of manuscript parts, in a copyist's hand, for a chamber work of two movements for two violins, two oboes and bass, likely dating from early 19th-century Austria or southern Germany. By an unidentified composer, apparently with the initials S. I. as shown on the title page. Five parts (including the three string parts given in the title and also two further parts for two oboes in the same hand) as follows: Violino I (5 pp); Violino II (5 pp); and Basso (5 pp), all folio; Oboe I (2 pp) and Oboe II (2 pp), 4to. Unbound. Each part also marked as "No. 9" and copied throughout in a bold, clear manuscript hand. The work is in two movements, "Allegro" and "Presto." Interesting set of four programmes from the 1834 Royal Musical Festival concerts at Westminster Abbey, each individually bound in string, contained together in a crimson velvet-covered 7.5 x 9.5 inch folder, with impressed gilt crown title, evidently a lavish production for the honored guests of the palace.  Each of the four programmes providing a full list of those featured in the concert series and including all the names of performers in the huge orchestra and chorus, these groups being formed from a combination of London and provincial players.
