The prolific German composer Simon Mayr, also known as Giovanni Simone Mayr or Simone Mayr or Maier, served as maestro di cappella at the Cathedral of Bergamo, and was a central figure in that city's musical life. His works include almost 70 operas, numerous cantatas and oratorios, 18 masses and 57 symphonies, most of which are rarely performed today. Adelasia ed Aleramo, with a libretto by Luigi Romanelli, was premiered in 1806 at the Teatro alla Scala, Milan.

Giovanni Morandi is regarded as the most important Italian organ composer in the first half of the 19th century, and was also the husband of singer Rosa Morandi.   (14717)
