Typed Letter Signed - " I do not think that I will write music for this little book"

Typed letter signed from the important Russian composer to progressive journalist Pierre Paraf, thanking him for sending Prokofiev "Danseur rouge," a work by Paul Knudsen. Dated Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, August 1, 1927. Translated from the French, in part: "Please excuse me for not yet having thanked you for sending "Danseur rouge" by Mr. Knudsen. I have been extremely busy in the past months and it was only in the course of the last week that I was able to read the "Danseur rouge," which seemed to me a work of great talent. I read it with great pleasure, notwithstanding the mistakes in the translation. Yet, I do not think that I will write music for this little book, for at the moment my thoughts are with other plans, but I am interested in Paul Knudsen's work and I would be pleased to read his other plays [...] Serge Prokofieff." 1 p. Poul, or Paul, Knudsen (1889-1974), who also wrote under the pseudonym Frank Tower, was a Danish playwright and librettist. His works include Scaramouche (1913), a tragic pantomime with incidental music by Jean Sibelius, and screenplays for many early Danish films. (14665)
