An early original signed H. Hering of London CDV portrait of the great Hungarian violinist, dedicatee of the Brahms Concerto and many other works. Joachim is shown as a young man, seated with his violin on the table next to him, a framed portrait of Stradivari on the wall over his shoulder. 3 x 4.5 inches. Upper edge slightly trimmed, else fine. An ideal example.

Chromo-lithograph caricature of the violinist published in the English weekly magazine Vanity Fair on July 5, 1905. The portrait is by Sir Leslie Ward, known as "Spy," the most famous of the outstanding caricaturists who published in the magazine. Small loss to lower right corner or sheet, a few very light creases, else fine. 15 x 10.5 inches.

Caprice Viennois - AMQS on his Birthday Calendar Page

AMQS of the great violinist and composer's beloved Caprice Viennois, op. 2, jotted in pencil on a small calendar page from his birthday, February 2. Kreisler has written out the first measure of the theme and signed boldly in pencil. Mounted together with a reproduction portrait photograph. In fine condition. AMQS 4.25 x 2.5 inches (10.5 x 6 cm); photograph 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm); total size 8.25 x 11.75 inches (21 x 29.7 cm). Kreisler is very uncommon in musical quotations, especially of his own compositions!

Autograph Signature

Autograph signature of the supreme Russian violinist, especially beloved for his fine interpretations of the unaccompanied Bach sonatas and Romantic works. The signature is clipped from a concert program and mounted on an album leaf with two clipped photographs of Milstein. Dated in pencil: February 7, 1942. Light toning, wrinkling, and mounting stains on verso; overall very good. 6.75 x 5 inches (17.2 x 12.5 cm).

Conus Violin Concerto - Autograph Musical Quotation

Autograph musical quotation from "the lady of the golden bow," penned on a calendar page giving her birthday of September 20, boldly signed and dated 1911. Parlow has written a quotation for violin of four measures, the opening Recitativo of the popular E minor Violin Concerto by Julius Conus. The quotation is matted with a reproduction signed photograph inscribed to a Miss Hall (Marie?!). AMQS 5 x 2.25 inches (12.9 x 5.5 cm); total size 6 x 9.5 inches (15.5 x 24.5 cm). Signed trimmed page from an early Hungarian recital program given by "the lady of the golden bow," dating from Parlow's years touring in Europe, ca. 1907-1912. Parlow has signed boldly in pencil above the ambitious list of works, which includes Vitali, Vieuxtemps, Rimsky-Korsakov, Brahms, Kreisler, and others. Original cabinet photograph of the pianist Rudolf von Scarpa, signed and inscribed on the verso to the internationally acclaimed American violinist, with whom he performed several concerts in 1896. He is shown as photographed by Dana of New York in 1895, and has written on the verso (translated from the German): "To Miss Maud Powell, the great artist, in great admiration and gratitude, Rudolf von Scarpa, New York, May 1896." Exceedingly rare signed photograph of the masterful prodigy violinist, one of the very greatest of all fiddlers, who died tragically young. 8 x 10 glossy photograph of Rabin with his violin - presumably the 1736 Guarneri renamed ‘the Rabin’ after his death - signed and inscribed in 1956. Light partial horizontal crease, creasing and small stains to the outer margins, otherwise in fine condition.  This is the only signed Rabin photograph we have ever offered and one of only a handful of examples to have appeared on the market in the last 10 years.  A true prize for the collector of violinist autographs!

Superb original Nast of Denver cabinet photograph of the great Hungarian violinist, court violinist of Queen Victoria and the early sonata partner of Johannes Brahms whom he is credited with "discovering" in a Vienna cafe! He is here shown with an unidentified bearded man. 4.2 x 6.5 inches, boldly signed on the verso "Ed. Remenyi." Corners chipped, block of toning around the signature, else fine.

Signed photograph of the superb fiddler, specialist in the 19th century bravura repertory. A student of Persinger, Piastro and Kulenkampff, Ricci has been widely acclaimed for his technical prowess and was the first to record the 24 Paganini Caprices in their original version. Ricci is shown playing, ca. 1960's, and has signed below the image. One thumbprint; overall in very good condition. 3.5 x 5.5 inches (8.5 x 13.8 cm).

Addressed to a Herr von Pappenheim, the letter reads (translated from the German): "Since I have organized a quintet at my residence tomorrow until half past three, I would like to ask you to attend." "Jota de San Fermín" - Autograph Musical Quotation

A lovely AMQS from the important Spanish violinist-composer, on a handcolored postcard of the Capilla Real in Granada. Sarasate has penned the first seven measures of the beautiful violin theme from his Jota de San Fermín (op. 36), with the indication that it should be played on the G string, and signed at the corner. On the image itself, he has dated: Paris, December 23, 1904. On the verso, the postcard is addressed to the Argentinian collector Ramona Imaz Otaño in Buenos Aires, with the original French stamp and postmark. Slight foxing and a crease to one corner; overall in fine condition. 5.5 x 3.5 inches (13.9 x 9 cm).

Autograph musical quotation in the hand of the great Austrian violinist. He has penned three measures from his Cadenza for Mozart's Violin Concerto in A, KV 219, signed and inscribed below, and dated Vienna, March 22, 1996. He has also signed and dated on the verso. [Paris]: Stern. 1938. Original concert program of the important string quartet from a French performance on May 18, 1938. At this time, the members of the quartet were Josef Roisman, Alexander Schneider, Boris Kroyt, and Mischa Schneider. They performed Bartok's Quartet no. 2 and Beethoven's Quartet no. 7. 1 p. beautifully printed on heavy card stock with deckled edges, in very fine condition. 5.5 x 7.5 inches (14.2 x 19.5 cm).

[Paris]: Stern. 1912. Original concert programs from two all-Beethoven performances of the leading French quartet, on June 28 and July 1, 1912. Taking place at the Eglise du Gesù (now known as the Eglise St-Ignace) in Paris and organized by the Société des Grandes Auditions Musicales de France, the concerts consisted of Beethoven's quartets nos. 8, 13, 15, and 16. The programs feature an attractive engraving of the interior of the church at the upper left. Each 1 p. Jenö Léner (first violin), Joszef Smilovits (second violin), Sándor Roth (viola), and Imre Hartmann (cello) have signed next to each of their images; the photograph has been slightly trimmed, with some loss to Hartmann's and Smilovits' signatures.
