Large Signed Portrait as Isolde

Signed large photograph of a portrait of the American soprano, the first American to sing at Bayreuth (as Elsa in 1894). One of the true greats of the Golden Age, she is shown here as Isolde and has has boldly signed and inscribed, adding "Souvenir of 'Isolde' in Paris, 1910." In fine condition, 6.5 x 9.5 inches [16.5 x 24 cm] (sight), double matted to approx. 11 x 14 inches.

Large Signed Photograph as Brünnhilde

Stunning 11 x 14 inch gravure Dupont photograph of the famous German Soprano who was a member of the Metropolitan Opera from 1899 until the US entered WWI. After that, she became embroiled in political turmoil because of her German husband, Captain Hans Tauscher, who supplied arms and munitions to the German Army and was arrested, but later acquitted, in a plot to blow up Canada's Welland Canal. Gadski is shown as Brünnhilde, a role she defined for her era, being coached by Cosima at Bayreuth and performing it 45 times at the Metropolitan Opera. She has boldly signed, inscribed and dated May 08 in brown fountain pen ink. In Fine condition.

Original Eisenstaedt photograph of the superb fiddler, specialist in the 19th century bravura repertory. A student of Persinger, Piastro and Kulenkampff, Ricci was widely acclaimed for his technical prowess and was the first to record the 24 Paganini Caprices in their original version. 7" x 9" photograph of Ricci, German Chancellor Franz Von Papen and writer Gerhart Hauptmann as the very young Ricci prepared to perform with the Berlin Philharmonic. With Eisenstaedt credit stamp on the back, this photograph was originally the property of Ricci's teacher, violinist Louis Persinger.

Autograph Signature

A rare autograph signature from the esteemed and influential blues musician. One of his earliest tunes, “Rollin’ Stone,” became the name of the super-successful British rock group and later a periodical ("Rolling Stone") which ranked him as one of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” in 2004.

Clipped from the conclusion of a letter, "So Thank Very Much Your Turly [sic] / Muddy Waters." 5.5 x 1.5 inches, affixed to a slightly larger sheet along the edges with tape.

Autograph Letter from Bruno Walter to Louis Persinger about Ricci!

ALS, one page, 6 x 8, March 3, 1940. Letter to Louis Persinger. In part: “It would have interested me very much to hear Mr. Ricci’s concert, particularly after your warm and heartfelt words about his playing but unfortunately I was not free on the evening of the concert. Perhaps I will have another chance to hear him.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Originates from the collection of American violinist and pianist Louis Persinger (1887–1966), who trained at the Leipzig Conservatory and later taught at Juilliard, mentoring the likes of Yehudi Menuhin, Ruggiero Ricci, and Isaac Stern. At this time the 22-year-old Ruggiero Ricci was under Persinger’s tutelage, and was coming into his own after having been regarded as a child prodigy; he went on to become a very prolific and successful violinist, considered the 20th century’s greatest performer of Paganini’s works. A wonderful letter associating these three important figures of classical music.

Original black and white poster, ca. 1960, with hand gouache coloring by the unidentified artist, signed in blue ink by Louis Armstrong, probably one of the largest signatures he ever signed and almost certainly the largest signed portrait of the great Satchmo in existence! Apparently obtained at the Morris Civic Theatre in South Bend, IN in 1963. In a large recent wood frame under UV-plexiglass. Some creases to the poster, but really in great shape overall. A large and extensively worked autograph manuscript sketchleaf for the first of the Drei Hymnen, Op. 71, accomplished in pencil on both sides of a trimmed sheet of printed musical manuscript paper, signed and dated in ink on the composer's sixtieth birthday "Richard Strauss / Garmisch, 11.6.24".  Approx. 56 measures, with vocal line and short score, as well as unidentified scoring.  Numbered "7" in the corner of the inscribed side, with additional (apparently mathematical) notations in two locations. 35.5 x 12.5 cm. Graz, (on the day of the Composers Festival) 1905."

Three-measure AMQS from the Italian musician and composer, Thalberg student who became professor at the Santa Cecilia academy of music at Rome, and subsequently had several successful European tours as a pianist. In 1863 he finally settled in London, where he remained for the rest of his life. He composed several hundred songs and pianoforte pieces, many of which became very popular. 12.5 x 7 cm, mounted to a slightly larger sheet. Fine.

He was the creator of the “hot” jazz style of guitar playing, created after two of his fingers on his playing hand were paralyzed from a fire.
