[Opera] Gadski, Johanna. (1872-1932)

Large Signed Photograph as Brünnhilde

Stunning 11 x 14 inch gravure Dupont photograph of the famous German Soprano who was a member of the Metropolitan Opera from 1899 until the US entered WWI. After that, she became embroiled in political turmoil because of her German husband, Captain Hans Tauscher, who supplied arms and munitions to the German Army and was arrested, but later acquitted, in a plot to blow up Canada's Welland Canal. Gadski is shown as Brünnhilde, a role she defined for her era, being coached by Cosima at Bayreuth and performing it 45 times at the Metropolitan Opera. She has boldly signed, inscribed and dated May 08 in brown fountain pen ink. In Fine condition. (10576)
