Autograph Letter about inauthentic South American instruments!
Autograph letter from the superb fiddler, specialist in the 19th century bravura repertory. A student of Persinger, Piastro and Kulenkampff, Ricci has been widely acclaimed for his technical prowess and was the first to record the 24 Paganini Caprices in their original version.1 page (approx 11 x 7.5 inches), airmail paper. December 30, 1970. In full "Of course I remember you. I would be happy to report to you that the instruments you mention are legitamate [sic]. I have seen them and didn't find one honest instrument. There is no dealer on earth that has such a collection. You may be sure that dozens of artists and luthiers have seen this 'collection' and no one bought. I prefer not to be quoted. Offer it to X and you will see how quickly he passes it up. Don't waste postage on it. S. America is the most dangerous territory in the world to buy instruments. Sincerely , R. Ricci."
Addressed to Geraldo Uhlfelder (1923 Berlin), founder of the concert agency "Organización de Conciertos Gérard" in Buenos Aires, Argentine. Uhlfelder emigrated to Argentine in 1938 and founded his agency in 1948. He published his memoirs in 1990 with the title "Allegro ma non troppo". Right margin with tear, with two small holes at the left margin, else fine. (10747)
