Original doubleweight De Bellis of NY photograph, with the raised stamp of the photographer lower right and stamp on the verso, boldly signed by the dashing American pianist, a student of Schnabel and Horowitz who went on to tour extensively in the 1930's. Later, he had a minor film career and was chair of the piano department at the University of Texas. 8 x 10 in. (21 x 25.5 cm). Some stains along the left edge, else fine.

Autograph Letter Signed

ALS of the Romanian pianist to Hans Ninck in Winterthur, Switzerland. In French. Vevey, Switzerland, June 29, 1944. 2 pp. Single leaf, with original envelope. Haskil thanks Ninck for an engagement in Winterthur and mentions her upcoming concerts with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva and Lausanne, under the baton of Pierre Colombo (1914-2000), with a remark that Geneva has not heard her since 1925. She expect to spend the month of August at a town named Berg (in Thurgau) and hopes to see Mr. Ninck there. Hans Ninck (1893-1985) was an architect in Winterthur. An excellent pianist himself, he supported the arts as a philanthropist. A competition at the Musikhochschule in Winterthur is named after him. 8.25 x 5.75 inches (21 x 14.5 cm). Very fine. Letters from the great pianist are uncommon.

Remarkable original lithograph portrait of the great Hungarian violinist and Brahms collaborator, by the most successful portrait artist of his era. Printed on Chine-collé, signed in pencil by the artist on the lower right mount, bearing also the printed signature of the subject "Joseph Joachim / London, May 16th 1904." 15 1/4 x 13 1/4. Partially Autograph Letter- "no one else are capable of rendering the intimate ties between human existence and the artist."

TLS with handwritten additions from the Polish-born pianist, harpsichordist, composer and pioneer of the early music movement. In French, to a male recipient with the last name of Bus, apparently a journalist. 1 p. Leaf with Landowska's letterhead. Paris, August 26, 1925. In typescript, Landowska thanks the recipient for a letter and for an article he published in the daily Le Figaro. "I was very happy, this corresponds so much to my ideal of the press: they are friends who must talk to us as only they and no one else are capable of rendering the intimate ties between human existence and the artist." She announces that she has selected a property at Saint-Leu to set up her school (to be known as "École Wanda Landowska"). Autograph concluding formula, signature, and postscript. 10.5 x 8.25 inches (27 x 21 cm).   In fine condition.

In typescript: "I would be happy if you could attend the philharmonic concert next Tuesday, where Clifford Curzon will play, one of my students for whom I have an affection and who makes me proud." Autograph continuation: "I have wished to see you, to have you here, for such a long time.... At what time? With affection, Wanda." Clifford Curzon (1907-1982), British pianist, studied with Landowska for some time in the 1930s and credited her for teaching the importance of precision. 8 x 5.25 inches (20.5 x 13 cm).
