Autograph musical manuscript entirely in the hand of Frederick Loewe for the song “The Quests,” intended for Camelot but omitted from the published score. Three pages, large 4to (9.5 x 12.5 inches), unsigned, [1959], with the cover sheet marked in pencil, “The Quests,” and with the names of the scene’s four characters: “Lancelot—Prisoner—Sirens—Knights.” Lyrics and musical score neatly written across interior two pages and to the rear second leaf, including 36 lines of music and lyrics, reading in part: “Woe is me [Sir Roderick], Woe is me! What bitter fate is mine! Woe is me! The victim of a swine, home he has a dungeon full of pris-ness; And thrice a day he gives them all the business. Woe is me! Woe is me! Yes! Lance Will You Change? Yes! Yes! Will you change? Will you change? Will you scrub your soul until you change? Turn from evil if I spare you? Will you change? [Meliagrance] I will change! I will change! Chicago: The Winters Art Lithographing Company. 1891. Booklet illustrated with 15 color lithographs, unpaginated (32 pages), 6 1/4 x 9 1/4 inches, textured paper, cord binding. Delicate and richly colored illustrations with glossy highlights by Charles Graham showing all aspects of the World's Columbian Exposition. Of particular note is the centerfold "Birdseye View of Grounds and Buildings. Columbian Exposition, Chicago,1893." The fourteen other color illustrations feature the Electrical Building, Horticultural Building, Woman's Building, and so on. This booklet was distributed by the Philadelphia cloth merchant Henry W. Green & Co. and was published in 1891, looking ahead to the opening in 1893. Extensive staining, nicks, corner creases, some dampstaining, two leaves with significant tears, front cover stained and separated from spine. A worn copy of a beautiful publication.

Pair of Sarony of New York cabinet photographs of the Irish playwright and leader of the Aesthetic Movement, taken at the start of his 1882 lecture tour of the United States and Canada by Napoleon Sarony, the pre-eminent New York photographer of his day and one of the city's favourite eccentrics. During the portrait sitting, Wilde posed for at least 27 photographs, in various attire which he anticipated would be distributed to cities in advance of his arrival. The present images are numbered 1 and 21 within the negatives, the present examples with written labels affixed to the photographs "8/30. Do." and "8/26. Oscar." The autograph page removed by Schubertiade from an album kept the by the great-grandfather of our consignor, who lived in New Orleans 1867-1939 and was at the time part of a small theatre group there.
