89. [Jazz & Song] Fitzgerald, Ella. (1917–1996).
Autograph Signature with Lyrics from Two of her Most Celebrated Hits

A very special autograph signature from the First Lady of Song, with the titles of two of her most celebrated hits inscribed in her hand: "Let's get together" and "A-Tisket, A-Tasket." Both songs were performed with Chick Webb and his orchestra, 1934's "Let's get together" being the group's theme song, and "A-Tisket, A-Tasket," Fitzgerald and Al Feldman's adaptation of the old nursery rhyme, a peppy breakthrough hit in 1938. She has signed on a small album leaf, 5 x 7 inches, and another hand has dated: July 17, 1940. This is the only example we have encountered of Ella writing out lyrics from her songs in an autograph context.

96. [Jazz & Song] Reinhardt, Django. (1910-1953).
Original Invitation to the Guitarist's Art Show

An extremely rare original invitation to a post-war exhibition of paintings by the celebrated and influential jazz guitarist, from March 14 to April 15, 1947 at "Galérie Constellation" at the "Boeuf sur le Toit" club in Paris. Although of course best known for his innovative technique and for developing a distinctive gypsy jazz style of guitar playing, Reinhardt also enjoyed painting and held two exhibitions of his art - simple, rather naive, brightly-colored oils of landscapes and nudes - in the 1940's to 50's. This was his first show, in tandem with Etienne Bloch, his manager and friend, who had also introduced him to painting. During the exhibition, Reinhardt's orchestra was also in residence at the "Boeuf sur le Toit." Read More...
