Though best known as one of the twentieth century’s greatest interpreters of the core German repertoire, he also premiered important works by the likes of Janácek, Stravinsky, and Schönberg. Signed photograph from the great American bon vivant, actor and pianist. A student of Schoenberg, he was a close friend and important promoter of George Gershwin and played the role of himself in the Gershwin biopic "Rhapsody in Blue." The 10 x 8 inch photograph shows Levant with fellow actor John Garfield in a still from the 1946 film "Humoresque." In very good condition, some light creasing in the upper left hand corner margin, slight nick to the upper right hand margin, minor discolouration in the outer right hand margin. Rare, in signed photos.
Autograph note on a small sheet, [n.p., "Wednesday", n.d.], in French to a friend ("chere ami"), sending tickets to a philharmonic concert and noting that he will send Pauli at around 7:00. Very light foxing, otherwise very good condition, matted with a portrait and set into a white frame. Not examined out of frame.
Pauli most likely refers to the tenor, Pauli, of the Hungarian Opera, a friend of the composer.

Remarkable concert programme from a May 11, 1840 Philharmonic Society performance conduced by Henry Bishop, featuring the great pianist/composer in a performance of Weber's Concert-Stück. The program also included 2 Overtures, 2 Symphonies, 3 arias,a duet with Nau & Hawes, and a Fantasia for violin played by the composer M. Molique. 4 pp. Contemporary notations on the first page, where the original concert attendee made vertical pen marks around the various program listings. Otherwise in fine condition.

This medallion, regarded as an excellent likeness of Liszt, shows him in profile to the right with his name engraved around the circumference. The obverse is inscribed "Concerts au Théâtre Italien. Paris 1844." 2.5cm in diameter.
Liszt performed solo recitals at the Théâtre Italien on the 16th and 25th of April, as well as on May 4th, under the direction of Berlioz.
A remarkable association item linking two of the greatest of all pianist-composers in history.
