"Long-distance Operator" - Original Drawings and Autograph Lyrics from the recording of the Basement Tapes

Important and extremely rare early original drawings by the legendary singer-songwriter, who has penned a series of three captioned drawings on the blank side of a Columbia Records Handelok record bag during the historic "Basement Tapes" recording sessions at Big Pink, and including a variation of the opening of the song "Long Distance Operator."  Obtained by Bonnie Diamond, then girlfriend of Levon Helm (drummer and vocalist of The Band), West Saugerties, NY, Summer 1967, and with her autograph shopping list to the verso of the bag. 8 x 10.5 inches. Rear Columbia logo panel with some rears, a few small stains, overall in very fine condition. We have not located any examples of original Dylan drawings having appeared on the market in over 30 years of records.  Read More...

"Cotton Club  / presents / Ethel Waters  / George Dewey Washington /  in / Cotton Club  / Parade  / 22nd Edition / with / Duke Ellington / And his Famous Orchestra."  Graphically striking sheet music cover featuring a smoking woman and two top-hatted men in layered profiles, designed by Sydney Leff, hand signed in black ink "Sincerely  / Harold Arlen" and Best Wishes / Duke Ellington," as well as at the head "Success Always / Elisa," "Best Always to you "Pegs" [Peg Leg Bates], "Sincerely / George Dewey Washington," "Ethel Waters," and "Nicholas Bros" [Fayard Nicholas, of the famous dancing team The Nicholas Brothers].  Single sheet (front cover only), stamped "COMPLIMENTARY," horizontal and vertical creases with small separations at extremities, small puncture to center of sheet, right edge worn and with tears, nevertheless a very rare and desirable signed souvenir from this historic production. 9.2 x 12.2 inches [23 x 31 cm].  Read More...

Unusual original Lester Glassner of NY 8 x 10 inch photograph and Handy and Ellington, shown together in 1946 as they "go over the blues theme which will be played at his Carnegie Hall Festival on Nov. 23 and 24. This is the only time that the works of a composer other than Ellington will be performed at Ellington concert." Photographer credit and news snippet affixed to verso, slight surface wrinkles, overall fine.

Highly uncommon signed photograph of the Brazilian samba and bossa nova singer who achieved international fame in the 1960s with her recording of 'The Girl from Ipanema.' The beautiful Brazilian singer is shown on the tarmac of an airport, and has signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, "To Paul, best wishes, Astrud Gilberto.” In fine condition. Vintage matte-finish, 7.5 x 9.75 inches (19 x 24.8 cm.).

Small format original photograph of the legendary jazz singer in performance on February 14th, 1954 at The Royal Albert Hall, inscribed in an unknown hand on the verso "Mis Yoo - + lot's of love, Bxx" [SIC]. 4.5 x 6.5 inches (11.4 x 16.5 cm.). A period print but not a first generation image. Irregularly trimmed, some light surface impressions, else fine.

"Everybody Rockin'" - LP Record Signed FIVE TIMES

Signed LP cover from influential American blues singer, guitarist and songwriter who has signed this 1981 compilation of work recorded from 1955-1959, Charly R&B Records (CRB 1013). Signed in black ballpoint ink to the front cover "John Lee Hooker", "John", "John", "John Lee Hooker," and "JLH."

 In 1992, he described his music: "I don't play a lot of fancy guitar. I don't want to play it. The kind of guitar I want to play is mean, mean licks." (Atlanta Daily News, 1992)

Scarce original concert flyer for a 1969 concert advertising "The Exciting Tamla-Motown Star" Stevie Wonder, The Foundations "Build Me Up Buttercup," and "America's Glamorous Recording Stars" The Flirtations, appearing at the Odeon Theatre in Manchester on March 19.  The booking form on the lower margin remains completely intact and blank.  An incredible and rare example of 1960s Motown ephemera.  Mild toning throughout, with trifold creasing; overall in fine condition.  5.7 x 11.4 inches (14.5 x 29.8 cm.).
