Bound music book entitled, “Songs from Irving Berlin’s ‘Alexander’s Ragtime Band,’” 9 x 12, 180 pages, signed and inscribed on the second free end page, “To Phyllis Arthur, best wishes from Irving Berlin.” Autographic condition: fine, with some light toning and soiling to signed page. Brownish-grey paper covers with a cloth-covered spine; front sunned; creasing to edges (mostly at corners); spine-edges rubbed, with several tears in cloth; cloth at spine-tail folded up; slightly yellowed and soiled. In a very nice custom-made brown cloth-covered case with a black leather title piece and beautiful marbled paper lining.

Sepia press photograph of two cast members from the original 1926 production of Eugene O'Neill's The Great God Brown, one of whom, dancer Margaret Severn, is wearing a mask by the famous Polish painter and designer.  The typed press note mounted to verso is dated April 12, 1926, and reads, in part, "Margaret Severn who was the first dancer to use a Benda Mask on the stage, wearing her Benda Mask and Leona Hogarth who plays the leading feminine role in The Great God Brown, known as the play of masks, wearing the dramatic mask she uses in the play."  Wide World Photos stamp to verso.  Overall in fine condition.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.). Original International News Photo photograph of the young composer/conductor, printed around the time of his historic November 14, 1943 NY Philharmonic debut and with a press sheet affixed to verso with text reading "Youth 25 Conducts Philharmonic in Emergency" and describing Bernstein's famously filling in with a few hours’ notice and without rehearsal for an ailing Bruno Walter. The concert was broadcast nationally, and The New York Times ran a front-page story the next day, calling his performance “a good American success story.” Light scratches, overall in fine condition. 6.5 x 8.5 inches (17 x 21.5 cm).
