"The Path of a Steel Ball" - Original Photograph with the pictured Model Train

Original photograph showing "the path of a steel ball ejected vertically from a moving object," by the important and influential American photographer, together with the original model train used in the photograph, a copy of Berenice Abbott: Documenting Science, in which the photograph is reproduced, and a notarized letter describing the provenance of the model train which belonged to J. Eric Little, a young relative of the MIT physicist Dr. Elbert Little who assisted Abbott with the project. Gelatin silver print photograph signed at the lower right on the photographer's mount, stamped by the photographer on the verso mount. The photograph has been professionally restored, with surface losses inpainted and the gloss immediately around those areas adjusted to more closely resemble the gloss of the original. 19.25 x 9 inches, mount and frame 30 x 24 inches.  Read More...

Some very light silvering; overall in very fine condition. Each 9.25 x 7.25 inches (24.3 x 19 cm), matted to 14 x 11 inches (35.5 x 28 cm). From the series published in Berenice Abbott: Documenting Science, printed by the photographer and given originally to MIT physicist Dr. Elbert Little who assisted with the project, subsequently obtained from his family.  Read More...

Albeniz / Bagnoles de L'Orne - 12 Julio 1907.  This volume also with scattered markings in pencil in the hand of Salzedo, cloth support to spine, and small restorations to wrapper edges. A finely made etui, bone with black lacquered decoration and mounted with gilded metal, understood to have belonged to the beloved Danish author best known for such classic fairy tales as “The Ugly Duckling,” “The Red Shoes,” and “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” Enclosed is a handwritten note in an early unidentified hand reading "Hans Christian Andersens Etui" and "Harboe" to verso, along with a small paper cut of a bull, apparently accomplished by the author.  Etui measures 2.5 x 5 x .5 inches (6.5 x 13 x 1.5 cm.). "The Wizard of Oz" Record Set - INSCRIBED BY THE COMPOSER

1939 4-disc set of first issue 78-RPM records of the cast-recording soundtrack album for the beloved film, inscribed by the composer, Harold Arlen, to his brother and sister-in-law. Housed in original illustrated covers. Inscribed in pen on the first record sleeve: "For Julie + Jean, Love Harold 12-18-39". Songs include "Over the Rainbow", "Munchkinland Part I & II", "If I Only Had a Brain", "If I Only Had a Heart", "The Merry Old Land of Oz", and "We're Off to See The Wizard". This record set includes the only known release of the movie's deleted musical number, "The Jitterbug", as the album was created and distributed before filming wrapped. Discs exhibit very little handling, but are untested. Front cover detached but present, with part of cloth tape torn. Edge wear to the covers, with cloth tape repair between inside front cover and first record sleeve. Overall very good. Read More...

Original black and white poster, ca. 1960, with hand gouache coloring by the unidentified artist, signed in blue ink by Louis Armstrong, probably one of the largest signatures he ever signed and almost certainly the largest signed portrait of the great Satchmo in existence! Apparently obtained at the Morris Civic Theatre in South Bend, IN in 1963. In a large recent wood frame under UV-plexiglass. Some creases to the poster, but really in great shape overall. Original 1927 broadside produced by Imp. H. Chacoin, Paris, advertising a Dadaesque “Utter Poverty” costume ball at the Theatre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. The event attracted a considerable amount of curiosity, though criticism on the provocation towards underprivileged populations eventually resulted in the show's cancellation.  15.5 x 23.15 inches (39.4 x 58.7 cm). Roger Cornaille with Frankenstein - Original Photograph

An extraordinary and rare original photograph taken by the British artist known for his emotionally charged imagery, fixation on personal motifs, and experimentation. Dye diffusion transfer print, taken ca. 1975 by Francis Bacon at the celebrated Parisian bookstore Librairie Le Minotaure, the image depicts -  in a slightly blurred and unsettling fashion reminiscent of Bacon's painted oeuvre -  the store's owner Roger Cornaille engaging with a Frankenstein hand puppet.  The location and photographer are identified by the subject himself, a friend of the artist, in a handwritten caption on the verso: "Au Minotaure / vu par Francis Bacon!" The photograph is identified with the code on the verso "G511232," possibly establishing the date of film manufacture as July (G), [197]5 according to the dating of Polaroid's 7-digit codes.
