Group of 5 finely executed original pencil and watercolor drawings of birds, ca. 1850. The drawings, two in pencil and three in pencil with watercolors added, depict parrots and a pelican. Illustrations for the poem Lenore by Gottfried August Burger (1747-1794) - Three Original Engravings

Group of three original stipple engravings after drawings by Lardy Diana Beauclerk, showing a man and woman on horseback being pursued by Death. In the first image, the man and woman look back as cloaked ghouls fly behind them; in the second, the man points ahead at a monk and a group of pallbearers. In the final image, the man has been replaced by a skeleton wielding a spear, and the woman swoons lifelessly on the horse behind him. Engraved by A. Birrell (first image) and Harding (last image) and all published June 1, 1796 by E. & S. Harding, Pall Mall. Each engraving ca. 11.75 x 9.25 inches (29.7 x 23.2 cm), clipped and mounted on card, slightly irregularly trimmed. Some toning and foxing, especially to the mounts; one corner rip has been repaired. Overall very good.

A Dance of Death for this Age - Original Engravings

Group of engravings, titled "Een Doodendans van dezen tijd" ("A dance of death for this age"). In the six small images, Death is shown as a skeleton in various disguises, ravaging a city and its inhabitants. As published in De tijd: merkwaardigheden der letterkunde en geschiedenis van den dag voor de beschaafde wereld, Volume 8 (J. L. van der Vliet, 1850), apparently after Alfred Rethel's Totentanz. Two sheets, 5.75 x 9.5 inches (14.5 x 24 cm) and 11.25 x 9.25 inches (28.5 x 23.7 cm). Heavy folding crease to the larger sheet, with archival tape repair to the verso. Overall very good.
