[Dance of Death]

A Dance of Death for this Age - Original Engravings

Group of engravings, titled "Een Doodendans van dezen tijd" ("A dance of death for this age"). In the six small images, Death is shown as a skeleton in various disguises, ravaging a city and its inhabitants. As published in De tijd: merkwaardigheden der letterkunde en geschiedenis van den dag voor de beschaafde wereld, Volume 8 (J. L. van der Vliet, 1850), apparently after Alfred Rethel's Totentanz. Two sheets, 5.75 x 9.5 inches (14.5 x 24 cm) and 11.25 x 9.25 inches (28.5 x 23.7 cm). Heavy folding crease to the larger sheet, with archival tape repair to the verso. Overall very good. (15797)
