Included are a ca. 1940's Jack Teagarden program (4 pp., with several photographs of Teagarden and his band); a 1944 souvenir program from the 6th season of the Eddie Condon's Jazz Concert series (18 pp., with extensive photographs throughout); a ca. late 1940's souvenir program from Stan Kenton and his orchestra (14 pp., with photographs throughout); a ca. early 1950's souvenir program from Louis Armstrong and his Concert Group and Woody Herman and the Third Herd (20 pp., with photographs and essays about both bands); and a 1958 souvenir program from the concert "Jazz for Moderns," featuring the Dave Brubeck Quartet, The Four Freshmen, the Maynard Ferguson Band, and Sonny Rollins (22 pp.) Some wear to the covers, with creases and some small tears (the cover of the Eddie Condon program repaired with tape); overall very good to fine. Two vintage 8 x 10 photographs of the beloved jazz pianist at the keyboard. In the first, Fats is shown in a light-colored suit at a white piano; in the second, he is shown from above as he performs for a CBS broadcast. Signed Photograph with Original Press Photographs

Signed photograph of the influential orchestral leader and self-dubbed "King of Jazz," together with two original 1929 press photographs. Whiteman is shown in a vignette portrait photograph and has signed and inscribed at the lower left, with the date of October 24, 1925 added in another hand. The two original press photographs show him in Springfield, Illinois, being presented by the mayor with a baton made out wood from Abraham Lincoln's home. A press clipping is included, dating the photograph to May 30, 1929: "Above you see in the picture John L. Taylor, local musician, Paul Whiteman, Jazz King, H. L. Fay, custodian of Lincoln's tomb and Mayor J. Emil Smith, presenting Whiteman with a baton made out of wood taken from Lincoln home." In very fine condition. Typed Letter Signed with Letter of Reference

Typed letter signed from the influential orchestral leader and self-dubbed "King of Jazz" to the jazz writer and drummer George T. Simon, together with an unsigned typed copy of a letter of reference for Simon. Dated August 23, 1943 on letterhead of the Blue Network. Whiteman writes: "Do hope things are moving along nicely for you and that the enclosed letter will help you secure the commission you want. I think you would be really great at this type of work." The letter of recommendation states that Simon is "a man of excellent character and sound judgement [...] a fine musician. Good executive, brilliant writer and thoroughly familiar with all types of publicity and promotion; this together with his varied experience in the entertainment field should make him of great value in any enterprise dealing with entertainment." Autograph Signature

Autograph signature from the choreographer known as the father of American ballet. He has signed boldly in blue ink at the foot of a typed sheet bearing a description of the ballet Walpurgis Night, originally choreographed by Leonid Lavrovsky for the Bolshoi Ballet in 1941. Balanchine's own similar ballet, Walpurgisnacht Ballet, was premiered as part of a 1975 production of Gounod's Faust. Folding creases and some light edge wear; overall fine. 8.5 x 11 inches (21.8 x 28.1 cm).

Original souvenir program from the 4th American season (1936–37) of Col. W. de Basil's Ballets Russes de Monte-Carlo, featuring a striking color cover illustration of a knight by Natalia Gontcharova. Souvenir Serge De Diaghileff's BALLET RUSSE - Original 1916 Tour Program

Original 1916 souvenir program from the first American tour of the Ballet Russe, featuring a cover illustration of Nijinsky in Scheherezade by Robert Montenegro and many full-color costume designs and other illustrations by Leon Bakst and others. The contents also include a photographs of Nijinsky in Spectre de la Rose, Bakst's Nijinsky as Faun, Adolf Bolm, Flore Revalles, and groups of dancers in Scheherezade, Prince Igor, and L'Après-Midi d'un Faune; ballet descriptions, an itinerary, and advertisements. Pages are of thick ivory uncoated paper, cover is thick mottled grey paper, with embossed gold art and letters. This is a particularly rare copy, in that it features the superb illustration of Nijinsky in Scheherezade by Robert Montenegro on the cover; the program is more commonly found with a different illustration on the cover. Library stamp to verso of front cover and a 1917 ownership signature from the artist Emily Shotwell Goeller-Wood (1887–1965) on the first page. Edge and corner wear to the wrapper; bound with a light brown cord; overall in very good condition. 36 pp. 9 x 12.25 inches (23.2 x 31.2 cm).

Original photograph postcard of the notorious demimondaine, the celebrated beautiful dancer who left the world of ballet for the Folies Bergère, was mistress to King Léopold II and was painted and celebrated by Lautrec, Muller and Klimt. De Mérode is shown in a Grecian-style dress, in profile to the left, photographed by Reutlinger of Paris. Her signature is reproduced in facsimile across the foot of the image.
