Vintage Italian Prayer Card - "Movimento Per La Santificazione Di Patti Smith."

Late 1970's or early 1980's Italian prayer card with an image of Smith decked out as a Saint, with an amusing "preghiera" on the verso as with those cards made and distributed by the Vatican. This one apparently obtained at one of Smith's first Italian performances, in Bologna. 10.2 x 16.3 cm.

Boldly signed postcard photograph of the great soprano in perhaps her greatest role, as Leonore in Beethoven's "Fidelio." This photograph is from the 1927 Beethoven Centenary production conducted by Richard Strauss and is sold together with a vintage Ellinger photograph of Lehmann and Strauss together during the preparation of this production. Both very fine.

197. Tamagno, Francesco. (1850-1905).
Signed Photograph

A desirable undedicated signed photograph of the most famous dramatic tenor of the golden age, dated "Genova, 18-4-[1]903." Best known as the creator of Verdi's "Otello" (1887), he was also the first Gabriele Adorno in the revised 1881 "Simon Boccanegra," and creator of major roles in operas by Ponchielli and Gomes. In an 1892 letter to the great tenor, Puccini writes: "I can always hear the sound of your divine voice in my ear and think of the extraordinary, the inspired interpreter who will sing my music." The present photograph was signed while Tamagno was performing in a revival of "Otello" at La Scala. 9 X 14 cm. Uninscribed, an ideal example in very fine condition.

Dated 28 March, 1895. Addressed to "Herr Kappelmeister Karl Pohlig" in Hamburg, mentioning Siegfried and discussing Felix Mottl, Willi Birrenkoven and others for future performances.
