Berlin: C. F. Messer. [ca. 1874]. Title; 2 - 237 pp. [PN] 275. Lithographic reprint of the first edition, with "Richard Wagner's Werke. Band II" on the front board. Contemporary red textured cloth with decorative titling in gilt to upper boards. In very good condition.


From the collection of noted early Wagner scholar Mary Burrell, who published "Richard Wagner his life and work" in the year of her death, 1898. Her celebrated collection was dispersed by Christies in New York in 1978 but the present score was not offered in the catalogue. Her copy of Der Fliegende Holländer, with interesting early posters.

"The Cruise of the Bacchante," relating an apparent sighting of the legendary ghost ship "while between Melbourne and Sydney," laid down and inscribed by Burrell beside it "Extract from...from 1879-1882 by Prince Albert Victor + Prince George of Wales."
