Signed card with a mounted photograph of the marvelous French violinist. Though he left many superb recordings, it was a great loss to the music world when he committed suicide in 1982 after a long struggle with depression. 11.5 x 17 cm.

Signed program from the great contralto who died tragically young. A 1944 program from a performance of Handel's "Israel in Egypt," boldly signed by Ferrier as well as Isobel Baillie, Deddle Nash and Malcolm Sargent who directed the Northern Philharmonic Orchestra at Huddersfeld. 1 page. On letterhead of the Conservatoire Royal de Musique - Cabinet du Directeur. Dated Bruxelles, 26 October, 1852. Addressed to the composer/conductor, Jules Benedict (1804 - 1885), in London. In French, a letter of introduction for Mr. Vogels, "former student at the Conservatoire, who is now a distinguished artist, especially adored for his playing of the viola and the viola d'amore which he plays especially well." He asks if he might "have occassion to employ him in some of the concerts you direct or in your special evenings" and notes that "you will be well satisfied by his talent." Original Russian cabinet photograph of the great couple who created Tchaikowsky's "Queen of Spades" and who both made fine early recordings (especially Medea). In this beautiful image, they are shown in Gounod's "Romeo et Juliette." Edges lightly nicked, a few stray marks, overall fine.

87. Bartholomew, Freddie. (1924 - 1992).
Signed Photograph

Vintage signed 8 x 10 inch photograph of the young British-born actor who was was offered the title role in David Copperfield by MGM. This film made him an overnight star and he went on to appear in such classics as Anna Karenina, Little Lord Fauntleroy, and Captains Courageous. After a tour of duty with the Air Force in World War II, his film career faded. He later remarked that the millions he had earned as a child had been spent largely on lawsuits, including the widely covered 1937 custody trial between his parents and his aunt. Fine.

Glossy 8 x 10 photo of the Russian-born actor in perhaps his most famous role, boldly signed in black felt tip. In fine condition.



Brynner is best known for his portrayal of Mongkut, king of Siam, in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The King and I, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor for the film version; he also played the role more than 4,500 times on stage.

A probing interpreter, Fischer wrote that "our aim should not be pure soil and sterile air in which nothing will grow."

Lovely original 11 x 14 inch drawing of the great singer, known as the “First Lady of Song,” widely regarded as the one of the finest jazz vocalists of all time. Signed in fountain pen “Sincerest + Best Wishes to you always Ella Fitzgerald” and signed and dated additionally by the artist, D. H. Ahrens in 1947. Some damp staining around edges which could easily be matted out and otherwise in fine condition. Unusual this large and unusual uninscribed.

Elusive signed photograph of the Spanish tenor. Despite his short stage career, lasting from 1919 to 1935, Fleta has been described as one of the most significant Iberian opera singers of the 20th century. Among the important international venues at which he sang were La Scala, Milan, (in 1923-26) and the New York Metropolitan Opera (in 1923-25). Additionally, in 1926, he had the honour of creating the role of Calaf in Puccini's posthumously-premiered final opera, Turandot, at the insistence of La Scala's principal conductor, Arturo Toscanini. Fleta therefore became the first to sing Nessun Dorma, one of the best known tenor arias in the history of opera. Read More...
