1 page. On letterhead of the Conservatoire Royal de Musique - Cabinet du Directeur. Dated Bruxelles, 26 October, 1852. Addressed to the composer/conductor, Jules Benedict (1804 - 1885), in London. In French, a letter of introduction for Mr. Vogels, "former student at the Conservatoire, who is now a distinguished artist, especially adored for his playing of the viola and the viola d'amore which he plays especially well." He asks if he might "have occassion to employ him in some of the concerts you direct or in your special evenings" and notes that "you will be well satisfied by his talent." Edges a little rough, margins toned, overall fine. 13.5 x 21 cm.As a musicologist, critic, teacher and composer, Fetis was among the most influential musical figures in continental Europe for most of the 19th century. He founded the Revue Musicale in 1827 and it was the first serious paper in France devoted exclusively to musical matters. (4054)
