Original sepia profile bust portrait photograph of the great pianist and influential pedagogue, signed on the mount with an AMQS and a quotation: "Kein Leben ohne Kunst, keine Kunst ohne Leben" ("No life without art, no art without life.") Leschetizky has penned a short AMQS of one measure to the left of his photograph, and dated on the right: Vienna, May 31, 1913. Below the image, he has written out the marvelous quotation (from one of his own poems), inscribed the photograph to a Mrs. Marie Hoover Ellis, and boldly signed. The photograph is signed additionally by the important American photographer Pauline Kruger Hamilton, who served as court photographer in Vienna. Pristine signature from the great Polish pianist, composer and statesman who was prime minister and foreign minister of the Polish Republic. Boldly signed in pencil on a small trimmed piece of stationery. Together with a photograph postcard of Paderewski, at the foot of which is a collector's autograph note and a date, November 6th, 1860, in another hand. On the verso of the postcard, a small printed anecdote about Paderewski is mounted; the card is postmarked January 2, 1903. In very fine condition. A very rare early signed trimmed program from the marvelous French violinist, mounted together with two small original photographs from the event, the program cover, and the signature of his long-time collaborator, pianist Pierre Barbizet. The then only eighteen-year-old Ferras has signed boldly in pink ink across the typewritten trimmed program, "En souvenir de Christian Ferras," and two small original snapshots of him playing and signing autographs have been mounted beside the signature. Above and on the facing hinged mat, the cover and another image from the concert program are mounted, together with a small autograph signature and address of the pianist, Pierre Barbizet. Original program from a 1949 Vienna concert of the great Belgian violinist and French cellist, boldly signed by both across the list of works, which includes the Bach violin concerto in E major, the Dvorak cello concerto, and the Brahms double concerto. The two soloists appeared with the Wiener Symphoniker under Franz Litschauer. The program is nicely fitted to a mounting page (not affixed) with reproductions of signed photographs of Grumiaux and Gendron. A great item uniting these two towering figures of twentieth-century string playing, in fine condition. Program approx. 6 x 8.5 inches (15 x 21.3 cm); total size 8.25 x 11.5 inches (21 x 29.7 cm) when folded. Grumiaux is quite scare in this format.
