Busoni, Ferruccio. (1866-1924)

Signed Portrait

Halftone portrait by Ernst Fuchs of the important Italian composer/pianist, mounted to a postcard and signed boldly "Ferrucio Busoni / 1904" in black ink, the signature extending onto the mount. The portrait sheet creased (not the mount), otherwise fine. Approx 9 x 14 cm.

In 1907, Busoni published his "Sketch of a New Musical Aesthetic." There, he lamented the musical "lawgivers" and predicted a musical revolution which would explode the traditional tonal rules, saying that "music was born free; and to win freedom is its destiny." (12388)
