"The Most Exciting Pianist of Our Time" - Original Poster

Poster advertising the great pianist as presented by impresario Sol Hurok with a quotation along the bottom from the New York Post proclaiming him "The most exciting pianist of our time," and with a blank space left at the top for concert particulars.  Steinway and Victor Records, appear at the bottom on either side.  Uneven toning throughout, with minor wear to the top and bottom edges and ink smudge beneath "Rubinstein," else fine.  14 x 22 inches (35.5 x 56 cm.)

1905 Concert Program performing Saint-Saens 3rd Concerto

Early original program from the great violinist, age 25 at the time, performing as soloist in the Saint-Saens 3rd Concerto and "Habanera," under the baton of Edouard Brahy, the program including also the first performance of Goetz's "Symphonie en fa" and works by Grétry and Beethoven. Bifold program, Grand Theatre de Gand, 16 December, 1905. Under the baton of Edouard Brahy, the program includes the first performance of Goetz's "Symphonie en fa," and Thibaud performing as soloist in the Saint-Saens 3rd Concerto and "Habanera."

Uncommon original Pach-Bros. of NY cabinet photograph of the great prodigy violinist, dedicatee of the Sibelius Violin Concerto, taken when he was around 11 years old.  Small tear to top right corner, else fine.  4 x 5.5 inches (10 x 13.9 cm.), mounted to overall size of 4.25 x 6.5 inches (10.7 x 16.5 cm.).

Original CDV bust photograph of the great violinist.  2.5 x 3.75 inches [6.2 x 9.8 cm]. Corners clipped with mounting remnants on verso obscuring the photographer's imprint, otherwise fine. Vieuxtemps was one of the most imporant musicians of the 19th century. As one of the greatest of all violin virtuosos, he was compared to Paganini by both Schumann and Berlioz. As a composer, he was an important reformer of the concerto and in this regard, according to Grove, "can be compared to Liszt."

Interesting original photograph of a man playing a violin apparently made out of matchsticks. "Being tried out here is a remarkable violin- it is made from 10,000 match sticks over a period of six months. The man who made it, who lives in Yokohama, Japan, claims that it sounds just as sweet as any conventional instrument." Dated August 17, 1966. Irregular margins and slight wrinkling and wear; overall in very good condition. 8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.8 cm).

Toscanini's Embossed Suitcase and Vanity

A leather suitcase and included silver-plated and wood/crystal vanity set, owned and used by Arturo Toscanini and embossed in gilt with his name. By descent to his grandson, Walfredo and acquired directly from his Estate. Height of suitcase 6 3/4 inches (17.2 cm), width 24 inches (61 cm), depth 15 inches (38 cm). With wear and scuffs and leather quite brittle, the front panel with handle fully separated from the body of the set but displays well nevertheless.

Signed Metropolitan Opera Postcards - Framed Ensemble

Set of two signed Metropolitan Opera postcards, reproducing the artist's lithograph for the 1966 production of Bizet's Carmen (translating a detail from his “The Triumph of Music”, which remains on exhibit at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York), and the 1967 production of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, for which Chagall had also composed the set and costume designs. Each signed "Marc Chagall" across the lower margin in pencil.  Nicely framed to 19 x 17 inches (48.3 x 43.2 cm.) and matted to resemble the Metropolitan Opera's famous arches. Unexamined out of frame but in apparently fine condition.

Hansen of Stockholm CDV photograph of the Swedish opera singer often called the "Swedish Nightingale," one of the most highly regarded singers of the 19th century, who performed in soprano roles in opera in Sweden and across Europe, and undertook an extraordinarily popular concert tour of the United States beginning in 1850. Very fine.  2.5 x 4 inches (6.4 x 10.7 cm).
