Original William Gottlieb black and white photograph of the important American jazz composer, bandleader and pianist, circa 1946-48; printed circa 1979. Gottlieb, who has signed his name and added a copyright symbol to the lower left, captures Ellington mid-laugh in the reflection of his dressing room mirror.  Gelatin silver print, printed later.  Photographer stamp to verso, titled and signed additionally on verso in ink and also, in pencil, to lower mat.  Mounting remnants to verso corners, a few dings to corners and to lower right margin edge, else fine. Elusive signed Auguste Bert of Paris postcard photograph of the celebrated Russian ballerina and actress in her most celebrated role, as Saint Sebastien in "The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastien" at the Chatelet Theatre, Paris (1911). Signed in purple ink with her name alone and dated 1919. 9 x 13.8 cm, from the collection of Auguste Dubeux (1894-1979), his notation on the verso, and in very fine condition. ALS in French, signed “Bunuel” to French New Wave actor Andre Labarthe, sending him a copy of the script of his new film and inviting him to be one of the small group of friends to see the film for the first time. One page, 8.25 x 10.5 (21 x 27 cm), February 5, 1964. Translated in full: "I returned this morning from the Alps where I had been traveling for a few days, not for sport but to get over a bad cold. I have for your review a script of Journal.  I think the film could be ready to be seen next week. I will show it to five or six friends, including you two. I'll let you know a few days beforehand. It's for this reason that I'm giving you my script." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Bunuel's own hand, incorporating his name ("L. Original bamboo and wicker chair used as set decoration in Rick's Café, the café and illegal gambling establishment run by Humphrey Bogart as Rick Blaine in the classic 1942 Warner Bros. film Casablanca. These style of bamboo framed, wicker covered chairs can be seen throughout the café during the film. In fine condition, accompanied by a framed reprint Casablanca set photograph, showing similar chairs in situ.  34 inches high. Expected wear to wicker, overall fine condition. First. 4to.  6 pp.  Piano with ukulele chords.  The theme song for the 1928 film Our Silent Daughters, a silent drama starring Joan Crawford.  The baby-blue cover prominently features the 23-year-old Crawford's smiling face.  Half-inch splits along top and bottom of spine, mild wear to edges, overall in fine condition.  9 x 12 inches (22.9 x 30.5 cm.).
