The Big Bands - SIGNED BY MANY

New York: The Macmillan Company. 1967. An extraordinary copy, signed by eleven of the greatest jazz musicians in history, in blue and black in, to pages on which they are pictured or discussed. Hardcover. Book Club edition. xvi. 537 pp. Illustrated with photographs and with a Foreword by Frank Sinatra. Red cloth boards with gilt title and decorations on spine, faded blue top edges. Pictorial dust jacket heavily chipped, cloth a little rubbed, else fine.

The author started his career as a drummer playing with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, then became a journalist mostly devoted to jazz music and managed recording sessions for different record label companies. His personal relationships with many of the leaders and musicians gave him a front row seat to many live shows and as a writer for Downbeat he had access to anyone and everyone who played in that great era of American music.  (21752)
