Signed program from the National Tribute to Alexander Calder on November 10, 1977, which included a performance of Virgil Thomson's Four Saints in Three Acts. Thomson has signed and inscribed on the first page of the program. The oratorio version of Four Saints in Three Acts was paired with Erik Satie's opera Socrate, with a mobile set by Calder and English text by Thomson. 21 pp., including program notes, photographs and set designs. Text in Fraktur. Lowercase letters and punctuation in black ink; capital letters oversized (like initials) and highly ornate in red and blue ink; lines in blue ink. Title pages for each letter of the alphabet with the letter as a large glyph in red ink, silver and gilt (no entries beginning with C, Q, X, Y, Z; I and J are treated as one letter). Rhymed dedicatory statement to leaf preceding title by the compiler (translated from German): "To stop boredom, to prevent from whimsies, quotations from Shakespeare's works are intended to soothe pain and strengthen the nerves.
