Disbound, with skinning of the paper along the spine edge, inside front hinge reinforced with paper, slightly toned, but overall a very good copy.  Rare. Pair of signed color candid photographs of the innovative American sculptor, each signed "Sandy Calder" in black ballpoint ink, adding an arrow pointing to himself in one of the images.  He is shown in a red shirt embracing, respectively, Arthur and Anita Kahn. Kodak prints dated June 71 on the verso, both in very fine condition and measuring 7 x 5 inches. Together with a third same format color candid photograph, dated January 72 on the verso, depicting the artist with Arthur Kahn and an unidentified other man in front of one of his large mobiles, the form with which he was most closely associated. Signed program from the National Tribute to Alexander Calder on November 10, 1977, which included a performance of Virgil Thomson's Four Saints in Three Acts. Thomson has signed and inscribed on the first page of the program. The oratorio version of Four Saints in Three Acts was paired with Erik Satie's opera Socrate, with a mobile set by Calder and English text by Thomson. 21 pp., including program notes, photographs and set designs. Very good. 11 x 8.5 inches (28 x 21.5 cm).

A rare signed halftone Houston Rogers photograph from La Divina's performances of "Tosca" at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, 1964. A single sheet removed from the February 8, 1964 issue of The Illustrated London News, small tears, creases and mounting remnants around the edges of the sheet have been matted out of view, a few small blemishes to the image showing, else fine. The full sheet 10 x 13 inches, photograph 8.7 x 10.9 inches (25 x 34cm; 22 x 28 cm). Archivally matted with only the image showing, 11 x 14 inches overall. Elaborate calligraphic album with 200 alphabetically ordered hand-painted quotations from Shakespeare's plays in German translation (translators not identified). 71 leaves; writing on recto pages only, verso pages blank. Text in Fraktur. Lowercase letters and punctuation in black ink; capital letters oversized (like initials) and highly ornate in red and blue ink; lines in blue ink. Title pages for each letter of the alphabet with the letter as a large glyph in red ink, silver and gilt (no entries beginning with C, Q, X, Y, Z; I and J are treated as one letter). Rhymed dedicatory statement to leaf preceding title by the compiler (translated from German): "To stop boredom, to prevent from whimsies, quotations from Shakespeare's works are intended to soothe pain and strengthen the nerves. If I have succeeded in doing so here and now, I have achieved what I intended, Jos. Goldschmidt, May 1922."
