"Hey There" - Autograph Musical Quotation on an FDC Honoring George Gershwin

AMQS of the Broadway composer and lyricist's song "Hey There," from The Pajama Game, penned on a 1973 first day cover honoring George Gershwin.  Postmarked Beverly Hills, 1973.  Adler has penned the first three measures of the much-recorded show tune.  Slight discoloration at the left side; otherwise a fine FDC which unites two great Broadway composers.  16.5 x 9.2 cm.

"This present Saturday...will be performed...the Serious Opera of 'Artaxerxes'" - Original 1813 Broadside

Original broadside for a Saturday, October 16, 1831 performance at Theatre Royal, Covent Garden of the composer's opera, performed for the "8th time" and "[c]ompressed into two acts."  Broadside also advertises performances of "the Burlesque Tragick Opera" Bombastes Furioso and the "Farce (with Songs)" Love, Law and Physick." Creases and rough edges, but overall in fine condition for its age. Approximately 8.25 x 12.25 inches (21.3 x 42.5 cm).

Original silver gelatin photograph of the iconic singer and actress, as captured by the 25-year-old Richard Avedon for Harper's Bazaar, 1948 around the time of the filming of The Foreign Affair, and depicting the actress with her famous and very problematic African lenci doll. On the original photographer's mount, signed "Avedon" in black ink beneath the photograph and with the photographer's stamp to mount verso. Signed Dakar "Freres du Theatre d'Afrique" Program

An unusual signed program from a 26 May, 1957 an appearance by the legendary dancer, singer, and actress at the Théâtre du Palais, Dakar during the centenary of the city. The program "Un Hommage à Josephine Baker," featured the "Freres du Theatre d'Afrique / Theatre de L'Ouest Africain / Union Artistique de la Jeunesse Guineenne," with Demba Kanouté performing a poem composed for the occasion, and Mamadou Kouyaté ("coraïste virtuose") and concluded with the official proclamation awarding to Josephine Baker the title of "Présidente d'Honneur de L'Union." Baker has signed "votre grande soeur [your big sister] Josephine Baker" in blue ink to the first page. 8 pp. Gray printed wrappers. In very fine condition.

Rare early original photograph of the celebrated American actress from the famous Barrymore clan whose performance in None But The Lonely Heart earned her the 1944 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.  A very early image by Otto Sarony of New York, with his stamp on the mount, ca. 1910.  Mounted bottom chipped/torn, a few stray pencil marks etc., overall fine.  5 x 7.2 inches (12.5 x 18.5 cm), mounted to an overall size of 8 x 10.8 inches (20.5 x 27.5 cm.).

"Waiting for Godot" - Original 1956 Program

Original playbill from the Broadway debut of Beckett's absurdist play at the John Golden Theatre, beginning on April 19, 1956. Starring Bert Lahr (also the original Cowardly Lion), the play had opened in Florida in January 1956 and bombed, before its more successful Broadway production that spring. Overall age wear and one vertical crease, but otherwise in very good condition. 20 pp. 6.5 x 9 inches (16.5 x 23 cm).
