Collection of four period photographic reproductions of scene designs by the Italian painter for the 1918 Montemezzi opera La Nave, adapted from D'Annunzio's 1908 play.  Three of the four identified within the negative "Gabriele D'Annunzio / La Nave / Apparizione scenica del / [I/II/III] episodio / composizion / di / Guido Marussig" to recto, and all four with Kaufmann & Fabry Co. of Chicago photographer's stamp to verso.  "Catechumen"(?) written in green ink to verso of two prints, and three with small drawings in the same ink, also to verso, all in an unknown hand.   Light wear to edges and corners, overall in fine condition.  Each approx.  9.5 x 6 inches (24.1 x 15.2 cm.). Signed Color Caricature in "Le Prophète"

Unusual full color lithograph reproduction of a self portrait caricature in Meyerbeer's Le Prophète, by the great tenor and talented caricaturist, here shown in profile and signed to a light area in ink "Enrico Caruso / N.Y. 1918." The caricature is contained in a fabulous decorative gold lithographic frame. Two horizontal creases and small tears and creases to edges, else fine. 9.5 x 11 inches (24 x 28 cm). Presumably excised from a souvenir program, this is the only signed color image of Caruso we have ever offered. Read More...

Rare Signed Engraving in 'La Gitana'

Uncommon signed engraving of the famous Italian ballerina of the Romantic ballet era, a central figure in the history of European dance, depicted during a performance in her father's ballet, La Gitana. Taglioni has signed in ink to the lower right. Published by Bettini Lithography of Bologna, ca. 1842. (15.6 x 14.2 in.) Signed and inscribed in ink along the lower blank margin by Tinguely, with further additions by hand to the printed imagery in thick black ink (for example, the black drawings above "La Sirène" and the spouting figure on the far right of that line; the Xs on the line below; the arrow from the red heart; the spouting elephant lower right, and the section division lines and inscription to one Sali Loukas.  Lower inscription including dating "7 Marz 1983...IRCAM" rather faded, vertical crease along the right perpendicular intersecting ink line, else fine.
