Souvenir typescript of the first scene of West Side Story, one page, 8.5 x 11, signed at the conclusion in blue and black felt tip by Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerome Robbins, and Arthur Laurents (ins). Scattered creases and tiny tears to left edge, otherwise fine condition. 

One of the greatest musicals ever made, it won a whopping ten of the eleven Academy Awards for which it was nominated.

Autograph Signature in Chinese and English

An original autograph signature from the Chinese-American actress in English and Chinese characters, dated 1936 in another hand. One vertical crease, slight mounting remnants on the verso; overall in fine condition. 4 x 2.5 inches (10.2 x 6.6 cm).

The actress was the first Chinese American movie star and the first Asian American to become an international star. Her long and varied career spanned both silent and sound film, television, stage, and radio.

Typed Letter Signed - THE POET WANTS CLAMS!

An amusing TLS on Christ Church Oxford letterhead from 1959 to the U.S. Embassy stating he is giving an Anglo-American dinner in honor of Professor Louis Kronenberger but he wants to serve clams for the first course and was informed that special permission must be granted from the Board of Trade in order to import them. Signed in green fountain pen ink at the conclusion; "W. H. Auden." A charming letter from the British-American poet who evidently took his dinner parties very seriously!

We are leaving to Paris on Saturday and will get there on Tuesday.  The preview will take place on the 21st of June at the Bibliotheque Nationale. Since I didn't have your address, I couldn't send you an invitation. Introduce yourselves as my friends; I will be there.  Another exhibition will take place on the 27th or 28th at Maeght's.  We will be happy to see you again. Typed Letter Signed, Discussing Detective Fiction

TLS from the British-American novelist and screenwriter known for his influential hard-boiled detective fiction, including The Big Sleep and Farewell, My Lovely. 1 page. Dated January 18, 1954. Three paragraphs in which he discusses copies of books he has that may be of interest to the recipient, presumably a collector, and his own interest in a book called They Don't Dance Much by James Ross. Several sentences discount the idea that James Ross is John Ross Macdonald, and Chandler closes: "But if I could recreate that strange sordid steamy lazy corrupt ingrown, and yet so human feeling of shabby life below the line, I shouldn't have stopped with one book, by heck." New York: Henry Holt and Company. 1935. 8vo. 64 pp. Green boards. Gold hued illustration patched onto the cover, gilt title & author on spine. Front free endpage inscribed with an autograph quotation of the American poet's most beloved line, signed and dated Bread Loaf, 1938. A halftone photograph of the poet has been affixed to the inner front board opposite the inscription, making for an attractive presentation. Area of staining to the signed page, not affecting any of the writing, corners of boards bent and nicked, slight fraying to spine extremities, evidence of a removed bookplate around the edge of the affixed photograph, else very good.
