Autograph manuscript, 3 pp, signed "Leonard Bernstein" at the head of the first and third pages, with the date Feb. 4, 1935. Lined paper, hole punches along left edge and corrections in an uknown hand. A remarkable short essay from the 16-year old composer and conductor, regarding Jakob Water's 1915 novel "The Goose Man." The esay begins "It is one thing for a writer to conceive of his plot arising naturally from human subjects; it is quite another thing to force motive for the plot. Let us take two authors as subject matter; shall we say, Hardy and Wasserman? Two different types are hard to find, estranged as they are in tongue, habit, environment. Autograph Musical Quotation

AMQS from the great Spanish composer, conductor, and cellist, one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, also well known as a humanitarian.



In pencil, the cellist has signed "Pablo Casals" and has written the four open string notes of the cello on the blank side of a printed visiting card measuring 9.5 x 4 cm. The other side with the printed name "Gardony Istvan," some annotations in ink and an unfortunate 'authentication' sticker, none affecting the autograph side.

Original portrait by Nadar of the Eminent French author, born Amantine-Lucile-Aurore Dupin, better known by the masculine pen name she adopted early in her career. An early feminist, she also earned a footnote in musical history as the longtime romantic companion of pianist/composer Frédéric Chopin. A few nicks to the mount and a few light spots to the image, otherwise very good. 6.5 x 10.5 cm.

Signed doubleweight original silver print photograph of the legendary ballerina, Nijinsky's dance partner at the Ballets Russes.  A striking image in profile, holding a fan, in costume for Mariuccia in Massine’s ballet Les Femmes de bonne humeur designed by Leon Bakst, signed with her name alone "Tamara Karsavina" in blue ink. The verso is blank, but this image was taken by Foulsham & Banfield in London in 1919. 20 x 14.5 cm. Signature to a dark area of the image, small chips to upper right edge, otherwise fine.
