It appears that this edition was printed largely using the original engraved plates, which begin after the letterpress introduction. The various revisions and corrections are printed by and large with letterpress and are interspersed among the earlier engraved pages, though sometimes additional material is actually printed on the verso of original engraved pages. Signed photograph of the American composer who melded the jazz idiom with classical music forms in a number of timeless orchestral and stage works, including Rhapsody in Blue and Porgy and Bess. Gelatin silver matte doubleweight 8 x 10 inch Toppo photograph of the composer at the piano writing a musical score, inscribed in black ink in the lower margin "with sincere good wished from George Gershwin." Some minor edge creasing, lower left corner torn and professionally restored and otherwise fine. An excellent example.

Vanity Fair Portrait Print, "Emotional Music."

A fine chromo-lithograph caricature published in the English weekly magazine Vanity Fair on February 1, 1879. The composer is shown in a pensive pose with legs wrapped around the back of a chair, looking off into the distance. The portrait is by Theobald Chartran, known as "T," one of the most famous of the outstanding caricaturists who published in the magazine. In excellent condition, 15 x 10.5 inches.
