Ozawa, Seiji. (b. 1935). Signed Photograph with "remembrances of the NBC Orchestra and your C-Boom-Boom" with interesting letter copy. Early signed photograph of the legendary Japanese conductor, inscribed "To George Gabor [sic]/ with fond remembrances of the NBC Orchestra and your C-Boom-Boom/ Seiji Ozawa/ 1974 May 29," together with a photocopy of a letter of recommendation written by Ozawa to the Distinguished Ranks Committee of the Indiana University School of Music on behalf of Mr. Gaber, a member of faculty: "Gentlemen:/ When the NBC orchestra came to Japan some twenty years ago, it certainly had a major impact on me./ Hearing them play Brahms Symphony #1 which highlighted George Gaber's timpany [sic.] solo presented my ears with a new sound and gave me the strength to study music outside of Japan./ In hope that this recollection will be of interest to you, I am,/ sincerely yours,/ Seiji Ozawa."  Photograph with pinholes to upper corners, light handling creases, mounting remnants to verso, else fine. 10 x 8 inches (25.4 x 20.3 cm.).  Photocopied letter withtape to corners, tear to right side, else fine.  6 x 8 inches (15.2 x 20.3 cm.).

From the collection of George Gaber (1916–2007), noted percussionist who performed with a number of professional ensembles, including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Baltimore Symphony and worked with Leonard Bernstein, Otto Klemperer, Igor Stravinsky, Henry Mancini, Duke Ellington and many others over the span of his career.  From 1960 to 1986 taught percussion at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and was also an artist in residence at Carnegie Mellon University, an adjudicator for National Music Arts in Japan and the Canadian Music Competition, and a Hall of Fame recipient in Percussion Arts Society.
