Mahler, Gustav. (1860-1911).

Vienna concert broadside and printed program. Single sheet flyer; program booklet, 23 pp. Sunday, 3 December, 1899.  Gustav Mahler conducting the K.K. Hof-Opernorrchesters [Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra] in Brahms Third Symphony, Dvorak Die Waldtaube (the Viennese First perf.) and Beethoven Consecration of the House Overture.  Broadside with mounting strip along the left edge, else fine; program booklet lacking the outer wrappers, else fine. Original programs from Mahler's illustrious Viennese tenure are quite scarce. This is the first time we've encountered a matched pair of the (more commonly seen, if still rare) broadside flyer together with the full printed program. 9 x 5.75 inches (20 x 14 cm).

The program includes advertisements, including for performances by the Joachim Quartet and Lula Gmeiner, a lengthy analysis of the works including numerous musical examples, and a full roster of the orchestra members, including Arnold Josef Rose (1863-1946), the concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra who later married Mahler's sister Justine (Ernestine) Rose-Mahler (1868-1938) in 1902, one day after Mahler married Alma Mahler (1879-1964).
