Three original ink on paper line drawing illustrations for the 1942 Boston Music Co. sheet music publication Stephen Foster; Fifteen Favorite Songs by America's Best-Loved Master of Melody (Ed: Jeffrey Marlow). All roughly 10 x 9 inches, one on slightly darker stock, all very fine. Together with a copy of the published sheet music volume in which they appear.
George and Doris Holt Hauman were celebrated American 20th century children's book illustrators and signed most of their works together, as here. They are best known for their 1954 edition of The Little Engine That Could (Platt & Munk). Although there had been many previous editions of this classic story, "it was the work of George and Doris Hauman that earned The Little Engine the title of being worthy to sit on the same shelf as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." (Cullinan, Bernice E., and Diane Goetz Person. The Continuum Encyclopedia of Children's Literature.)
From the collection of Paul McMahon, critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer.
