Miklós Rózsa was born in Budapest, Hungary, but it was not until he moved to London that he met director-producer Alexander Korda who influenced him to write more formally for the movies, and to relocate to America, where he could follow his two interests - to compose for films and for the concert hall.  The Four Feathers was Miklos Rózsa's first big international success. He later received Academy Awards for his score for Hitchcock's Spellbound in 1945, in 1947 for A Double Life , and for a third time in 1959 for Ben-Hur. In the same period, he wrote his Violin Concerto for Jascha Heifetz, who premiered it in 1956.

The Four Feathers is a 1939 British Technicolor adventure film directed by Zoltan Korda, starring John Clements, Ralph Richardson, June Duprez, and C. Aubrey Smith. Set during the reign of Queen Victoria, it tells the story of a man accused of cowardice and his efforts to redeem his name. It is widely regarded as the best of the numerous film adaptations of the 1902 novel of the same name by A.E.W. Mason.
