Child, Julia. (1912-2004) [Beck, Simone, Louisette Bertholle]. Mastering the Art of French Cooking - SIGNED. New York: Alfred A. Knopf. 1966. First Edition, twelfth printing.

A very good signed copy of the most influential cookbook of the 1960s, illustrated by Sidonie Coryn. [1-2: blank] [i-vii] viii-x [xi-xiii] xiv-xv [xvi] [1-3] 4-684 [i] ii-xxxii (index) [xxxiii-xxxiv] pages. Inscribed and signed by Julia Child on the half-title "To Paul / Bon appétit - Julia Child" and by her husband, "Paul Child." Fleur-de-lis patterned cloth boards very slightly toned, with a heavily worn partial dj, otherwise very fine throughout.

Signed vintage copies of this groundbreaking cookbook, from the 1960s, are relatively uncommon. This example is from the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications

A fabulous item from the famous American cook, author, spy, and television personality, who introduced French cuisine and cooking techniques to the American mainstream, through her many cookbooks and television programs. Her most famous works are the 1961 cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking and, showcasing her sui generis television persona, the series The French Chef, which premiered in 1963.
