Interesting typed form letter addressed to "Maestro Stokowski," signed in block letters and with the addition of his Mt. Kisco, NY address in the hand of the great American composer, assenting to "lend my name as a sponsor of the 'Salud Casals' program" and underlining the option indicating he would not be able to attend the event.  Lightly toned, date received in another hand, upper right.  5.5 x 3.5 inches; 13.5 x 8.5 cm. 

The "Salud Casals” homage to Casals was performed at Lincoln Center, New York, April 15th, 1970 with conductors Pablo Casals and Leopold Stokowski leading the American Symphony Orchestra. Casals (age 94 years old!) conducted his own Sardana for Cello Orchestra with an Orchestra of 100 invited cellists, while Stokowski conducted Bach, Beethoven with soloist  Rudolf Serkin and Rolando Gagnon conducted pieces of Bellini, Donizetti and Rossini with Beverly Sills.
