A single trilled b-flat, penned by the the highly original and prolific American composer who taught at Julliard and whose works were championed by Monteux, Koussevitzky, Mitropoulos and others. Diamond identifies the note as from his 9th Quartet, a work composed from 1965-68 and dedicated to Roger Sessions in honor of his 70th birthday. On a small index card, signed and dated 1981 beneath a mounted reproduction portrait of the composer, who adds on the verso "This is the best I can do - D.D."
