Lettered in the image and below with title, "Shakespear. Act 5. Scene 7", and publication details, "Painted by Wm: Hogarth/Engrav'd by Wm: Hogarth & C. Grignion./Publish'd according to Act of Parliamt. June 20th. 1746." 56 x 46 cm, framed to slightly larger. Paulsen 165 ii/ii. Fine impression on laid paper with good margins, probably from a Boydell edition, ca. 1780 or earlier.


One of Hogarth's best images, depicting his close friend the famous actor David Garrick. Richard is shown in his tent before the Battle of Bosworth, at the moment of grief and horror for his past deeds.
