8 x 10 inch signed photograph of the Canadian-born and London-trained cellist, a prodigy helped as child by Barbirolli and Casals who taught her. At 14, she made both her London recital debut and first orchestra appearance under Sargent. 1942 saw her NYC recital debut. She lived in London for a period and introduced many modern works by Barber, Hindemith, Shostakovich , Bloch etc. In 1955 she became an American citizen and was very active in the US as performer, recording and as a teacher at Juilliard. She was the first American cellist to perform in the USSR and concertized and recorded with the pianist Grant Johannesen to whom she was married from 1966-73. She recorded both Bloch's Schelomo & Barber's Cello Concerto under the composers's baton. SCARCE.
