On the front wrapper, the mezzo soprano Freiderike Mayer, student and close companion of Wolf's, has authenticated the markings: "Die diversen roten & blauen Zeichen sind Hugo Wolfs[,] eigenhändig hinzugefügt! – In dem Sommer 1890 wo ich so viel mit ihm – der aus Perchtoldsdorf zu mir musizieren herüberkam – ... gesungen habe."
