De Reszke, Jean. (1850 - 1925). Interesting Signed Letter with Photograph. Fine autographed letter, together with a postcard photograph (5.5 x 3.5) of the Polish tenor, whose storied career included the creation of the title role of Massenet's Le Cid. He was the leading tenor at the MET before Caruso and opened an important vioce school in Nice where he taught many great singers, including Bidu Sayao and Maggie Teyte to name but two.
Letter, in French, sending his regrets that he will be unable to sing the role of Siegfried "for the good reason that I do not know it!" He adds that he also doubts his current manager would be willing to "lend him to another theater." An interesting piece.
