Kastner collected 642 different cries of the trades-people of the streets of Paris and of other European cities and classifies them here by place, time, and occupatin of the crier.  Following these classifications, he has composed an elaborate score \"Symphonie Humoristique: Les Cris de Paris,\" for full orchestra and chorus, divided into three sections: Le Matin, Le Jour, Le Soir.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eKastner was a prolific composer and writer on music.  He left a wide variety of compositions, including some of the earliest works composed for the innovations of Adolphe Sax.  His Traite General d'Instrumentation (1837) was an important influence for Berlioz, who later gave Kastner the autograph manuscript of Romeo et Juliette (Grove).
