A very spirited and humorous note from the most famous actress of the 19th century, known as “The Divine Sarah.” The Greek-Italian author Matilde Serao has penned a sentiment reading [translated from the Italian]: "Every person, even if not an artist, can create a masterpiece: that of his soul, in his interior life," signing and dating it in the summer of 1908." Beneath this, Bernhardt has responded, some 11 years later, in 1919, writing [translated from the French]: "I want to place my name under that of this woman who has offended French hospitality!!! This will save this page - Sarah Bernhardt." 18 x 23 cm and in very fine condition.
